Corinne A. Gregory
Corinne A. Gregory
President and Founder

Ms. Gregory is the President and Founder of The PoliteChild®, based in Bellevue, Washington with a second regional center in the greater New York/New Jersey metro area. The PoliteChild program was born from Corinne’s belief that our children – indeed our society – would benefit strongly from knowing and using the rules of and reasons for proper behavior. Corinne, like many others certainly, felt that something had to change in order to stem the erosion of decency and civility in our world. But, instead of simply commiserating with others about the decline in values and behavior, Corinne felt compelled to do something about it. She developed The PoliteChild in the hopes of making a difference in the lives of the children and families who participate in the program by giving them the tools to help them truly succeed in life – the gift of good social skills. She is on a personal and professional crusade to help re-civilize our young people, our schools and our communities and help reform our ailing educational system.

Before starting The PoliteChild, Corinne was deeply involved in the areas of technology and business, where she founded The HartGregory Group which served the technology and business world through writing, editing, professional speaking, and consulting. From 1997 to 1999, Corinne was Vice President of Product Marketing at a publicly-held software product and professional services company, where she was responsible for strategic planning, marketing and sales of the company’s products, and was the company’s primary spokesperson overall during her tenure.

Corinne is an author, frequent speaker, advisor, and spokesperson on business and family-development topics, and her media appearances include The Today Show, CNN, Time Magazine, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Parents Magazine, and more. Besides her previously published technology and business-focused books, she is working on several books related to SocialSmarts program, parenting, and education reform.

An active member of Rotary International she believes strongly in serving and giving back to the communities in which she lives and works. She has been a member of the Northshore YMCA Board of Managers; the Board of Directors for the Coachella Valley Symphony, and Buddy Rogers Youth Orchestra are among the other groups with which she has been involved.

But, regardless of her business accomplishments, her family is her favorite audience, and her most cherished title is “Mommy.”

Jill Schmidt
Creative Director

After juggling a career in advertising design with raising two fabulous kids, she decided it was time for something completely different. Jill always liked to draw so she worked to become an illustrator. Spending time with her kids, the Frog Princess and X-man, showed her how important art was in their lives. They spent lots of time looking at pictures in their favorite books. Their favorite pictures were either of something whimsical or magical. Jill always has some humor, action, or fantasy in her drawings so kids will want to pay attention to the subject matter they illustrate. Having sent both kids off to college, she now has time to work on illustrations for several books. In her spare time she serves as an Arts Commissioner for the city of Redmond, WA.

Lisa Scattaregia
Business Advisory Board Member

Ms. Scattaregia founded First Impressions Marketing & Public Relations in October 1985, and is the company’s President and Senior Creative Director. Clients of this award-winning Seattle firm include Microsoft Corporation, Microsoft Press®, the Pike Place Market, and Boeing. Awards for Creative Excellence include American Corporate Identity, Best in the West, DESI, and the prestigious Communication Arts Annual.

Ms. Scattaregia graduated Cum Laude with a dual degree from Miami University of Ohio—a B.A. in International Studies and a B.S. in Secondary Education—and spent her junior year abroad teaching at the American Community School in Athens, Greece. Lisa’s professional experience is considerable. It begins at Westinghouse Corporation where she created films and formal presentations on the United States Energy Program as briefings for international diplomats, scientists, and corporate executives visiting the Hanford Research facilities. While at Westinghouse, she received the Young Career Woman of the Year award for Washington State.

Her career as a Brand Strategist started several years later in San Francisco for Dancer Fitzgerald Sample. She has also worked for Ogilvy & Mather, Cole & Weber, and Chiat/Day on demanding and dynamic accounts with annual advertising budgets in excess of $4 million. These accounts included Boeing, PACCAR International, Kenworth Truck Company, Pacific Northwest Bell, Alaska Airlines, Weyerhaeuser, and Boise Cascade.

From 1983-1985, Ms. Scattaregia was a corporate officer and Director of Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations for Sylvan Learning Corporation. She developed and implemented marketing and corporate communications strategies that took a regional company with only 41 franchises (operating mostly in the red) to an international organization of 217+ units (operating in the black) in just 18 months. She also piloted the highly successful public offering of the company on NASDAQ in July 1985. She was instrumental in obtaining extensive press coverage including feature articles in Newsweek, the New York Times, Time magazine, as well as appearances on The Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN, and the McNeil-Lehrer News Hour. Acquired in a hostile takeover shortly after it went public, Sylvan was subsequently sold and then resold in the late 1980s. However, as a result of solid marketing strategies and the nationwide exposure during Ms. Scattaregia’s tenure, the company continues to be recognized as the world leader in supplemental education programs.

A published author and photographer, Ms. Scattaregia founded the Northwest Women’s Creative Network and is also a member of Women in Communications. Ms. Scattaregia has taught marketing courses at Western Washington University, the School of Visual Concepts, and Bellevue Community College. She is multilingual (French, Chinese, Greek) and holds a government security clearance.

Lisa and her husband—an award-winning furniture designer and master craftsman—live near Seattle where they enjoy sailing on Puget Sound with their young son.
